SUSTAINABILITY
All of our pieces are consciously handcrafted in limited quantities and designed with incredible attention to detail.
Isabelle Meira's mission is to create high-quality, eco-conscious pieces that make women feel effortlessly confident.
IN FOCUS
Isabelle Alexander founded Isabelle Meira after working in the fashion industry and seeing the damage it was having to our planet.
The idea that started the brand was that the most sustainable way to buy clothing is to invest in high-quality items that are consciously created (in small quantities, honest supply chains and with eco-conscious fabrics).
We are an all female, family-ran business with over 40 years experience in the fashion and swimwear industry. This drives our purpose by creating the highest-quality, best fitting items that are sourced and made in a conscious way.
We exist to show the industry that with enough care and attention, the things we buy can serve to be investments and help restore our planet by making better choices.
You'll find us partaking in various sustainability initiatives, such as product recycling, deadstock collections and pledges to never damage our stock.
To date we have planted over 330 trees and funded 38 sustainability projects around the world. These actions having resulted in a carbon reduction of 24.41 tonnes, and are the equivalent of 19 long haul flights and over 60,000 miles driven in a car.
Swimwear is a product that demands to be made from synthetic fibers due to the need for performance, durability and resistance to water, chlorine, and UV exposure. Our sustainable fabric choices are therefore not black-and-white but a consideration for our wider processes. We choose recycled options where we can but in some cases opting for local high-end fabrics is a better option to reduce our carbon footprint.
For us at Isabelle Meira, sustainability is a journey in a progressive world. It is about making choices and demonstrating we can do better as an industry.
We're always open to new ideas, so if you think we can do things better, please let us know at hello@isabellemeira.com.
Being a conscious brand is not just about the products, but about the people we work with to make them. We strive to continuously empower our supply chain workers, team and community.
We work with ethical, accredited factories. Built on shared values and collaboration. The manufacturers we use are independently audited and certified to meet globally recognised social and environmental standards under ISO, Sedex, and WRAP.
We are working hard on making our clothing more accessible to all women. Every collection in 2024, we expanded our size range and are continuing this work in 2025 and beyond. However, we are still a small business and expanding our collections comes with development and production costs so we must do this at a steady speed.
Our team is an all female team of 3, we're family so naturally we collaborate in an honest way to drive change in alignment with our mission.
At Isabelle Meira we are passionate about our products and have pledged for no stock to ever be destroyed, damaged or go to landfill.
We never make products specifically for discount or sale promotions. If our stock sells differently than expected, we engage in sales or other responsible solutions to ensure all our products make it to a loving home and not landfill.
Let's start with design; we very rarely develop a product that doesn't go into our collections We work with CAD and 3d technologies to create our products so that our samples are as close to perfect fist time around.
Our Manufacturers:
When selecting where to make our products, we look at the materials, price, labour practices and the environmental approaches. It is our responsibility to select the most appropriate manufacturers that are aligned with our purpose. We have developed trusted relationships with our suppliers and work with them regularly.
England
We are partnered with two manufacturers based in London who produce the majority of our swimwear and all of our beachwear. Both are industry-leading manufacturers and we maintain supply chain transparency through these routes by purchasing all of our fabrics and trims directly with suppliers across Europe.
Eco-friendly highlights includes; 100% of unusable textile off-cuts are recycled, all garments and products are packaged in biodegradable materials, energy saving “servo motors” on all equipment and energy saving LED Low energy lighting in all factory divisions.
Indonesia
We are partnered with a manufacturer based in Indonesia for a small percentage of our swimwear. They are leaders in sustainable manufacturing and are transparent about their suppliers, where we opt for a variety of high-end local trims and fabrics.
Eco-friendly highlights includes; solar-powered swimwear factory which regularly gives back to the power grid, a proportion of profits are donated to local charities, paying all staff up to three times the standard (they negotiate their own contracts and salaries).
Our Fabrics:
We believe in creating excellent quality items that last and performs.
We predominately use recycled materials because it sense to use post-consumer plastic waste and turn it into beautiful products instead of being in landfill or our ocean.
Recycled Nylon
We use ECONYL® recycled nylon in most our swimwear. ECONYL® is an innovative, sustainable material made from regenerated nylon, derived from waste such as discarded fishing nets, fabric scraps, and industrial plastic, offering a high-performance and eco-friendly alternative for fashion and design.
Virgin Nylon
We opt for virgin nylon in rare circumstances where it is overall more environmentally beneficial to use local high-end fabrics instead of shipping them from other locations. This allows us to support local communities around our manufacturers.
Virgin Rubber
We use virgin rubber from a credible supplier who recycles and repurposes materials to make environmentally friendly products and are committed to achieve this with sustainable technologies.
Viscose Cotton
Our beachwear is made from viscose or viscose cotton blends. These are sourced as locally to our manufacturers as possible to avoid long supply chains with lots of air miles.
OUR PLEDGE
WE WILL NEVER PURPOSELY DAMAGE OUR STOCK
We have pledged with Buy Me Once on their Love Stock, Hate Waste mission to never to purposely damage stock. All of our usable, returned or surplus stock will be donated, resold or recirculated in some way which benefits society.
